Week 23

January 9th, 2014 at 11:12 pm

Week 23: 17 JAN 14
Balance: $ 527.11

Playing catch up from the holiday break. I went out of town and was waiting for some Ike Dollars in the mail so without further delay, let's see a few weeks. I'm actually going to get a week ahead. I divided up what I had on hand and found that I could supply up to week 23, so here it is.

Officially past the rim?

I saw you were posting in the forums with these pictures. Can you explain what your doing next time you post? Just trying to follow along better.

Sure thing, but if you found it in the forums, you should read the first post. Big Grin

Ultimately, I am doing the 52 week challenge. The challenge goes like this, with each passing week, you save an equivalent of dollars. So, on the first week, you save 1 dollar, on the second week, you save two dollars, on the third week, three dollars and so on until you hit your 52nd week and you save 52 dollars.

I decided to make it more challenging in a few way.

    1) Instead of doing it with a dollar, I am doing it with a dollar coin. I have Presidential Dollars, Sacajawea Dollars, Susan B. Anthony Dollars, and Ike Dollars.

    2) I am doing it with each denomination from the cent to the dollar. So basically, I have six challenges going on at the same time. Cent, Nickle, Dime, Quarter, Half Dollar and Dollar.

    3) I am using only copper cents. In 1982 the cent went from mostly copper to mostly zink. The copper cents have two cents worth of copper in them so they are worth more than the zink cents that have a metal value of .005 cents.

I hope this answers your question.
    Thanks,
    Ray

Thanks for the clarification, I wondered why the coins were all stacked different. I'm aware of the 52 week challenge. Sounds like you have a fun twist on it!

I didn't realize so many people would see this...lol. A little more about why I am doing it this way.

As with most people doing the challenge, they have a reason to be saving. This money is earmarked for our 20th Anniversary vacation, and truthfully, we never really had a honeymoon. Life just caught up with us and we never got around to it.

The normal 52 week challenge will amount to $1,378 dollars. Add in the other denominations and it will amount to $2,631.98 sometime in Aug 2014 (Currently scheduled to complete this challenge on 8 AUG).

I am also doing the 365 day challenge, and another normal 52 Week challenge both started with the new year. The 365 day challenge is saving cents, 1 cent on the first day, 2 cents on the second day, 3 cents on the third day.... 365 cents on the 365th day. This will save $667.95 The 52 week challenge started with the new year is being saved in a bank.

Our 20th anniversary is in 2015 so we will have all these challenges complete by then. The total value of all three will be $4,677.93 this should be enough to cover our anniversary vaca (Currently planning for Las Vegas).

For those of you that were following (Or will see this). A few things happened that caused this challenge to stall. First and foremost, the challenged is delayed and will be continued in the near future.

My family suffered a pretty serious vehicle collision at the beginning of this year and we were dealing with the aftermath for a few months.

A few months later, there was a second vehicle collision. Both took a financial and emotional toll on us all.

We have just now caught up financially and hope to pick up this challenge where we left off. That said, I am no longer unemployed, this year brought a new exciting job with it and the ability to deal with the two incidents noted above as well as catch up with our finances (And brought additional bills...lol). Such is life.
